Klamath County is home to Crater Lake National Park, one of Oregon's most popular visitor destinations. Created by the explosion of a massive volcano 7,000 years ago, the lake today offers year-round sightseeing and recreation opportunities.
But having the deepest and bluest lake in America isn't the only thing Klamath County has. In addition to Crater Lake you'll find plenty of places for exploration in the great Upper Klamath River Basin region. Just across the state line in in Siskiyou County, CA you'll find the Lava Beds National Monument laced with miles and miles of lava tube caves.
Klamath Basin National Wildlife Refuges- no fewer than SIX national wildlife refuges - sit within an hour's drive of Klamath Falls. It's the birding epicenter of the Pacific Flyway, while 20 pound wild rainbow trout can be taken from Upper Klamath Lake. You will also find the longest rails-to-trails park in Oregon - the OC&E-Woods Line Trail - taking off from Klamath Falls and extending for more than 100 miles to the east.
And if that's not enough scenic byway routes crisscross the Upper Klamath Basin. The star of the road touring show is the Volcanic Legacy National Scenic Byway - designated as an All America Road because of the area's unique mix of landscapes and natural attractions.
